On November 9th, 1999, House Bill 4379 was introduced by State Representative Valde Garcia of St. Johns to bar lawsuits against gun manufacturers and other businesses by Michigan municipalities. Currently such suits have been filed by both Wayne County and the City of Detroit. These suits were intended to bankrupt the gun manufacturers and drive them out of business. Already, Colt Firearms is moving away from the civilian sales market as a result of such suits by dropping many of their pistol lines and concentrating on government contracts for rifles and historical reenactment firearms such as their single-action pistols.

We need massive membership support behind this bill, so each one of you needs to call your representatives and urge them to co-sponsor HB4379 and push it forward. The National Rifle Association has made the passage of this bill a top priority and we're supporting them every step of the way because if these suits drive the manufacturers out of business, there won't be any guns for us to buy no matter what the Constitution says.

   The Michigan Coalition for Responsible Gun Owners is a non-profit, non-partisan all volunteer organization.  Formed from just ten people in 1996 we now represent over three thousand members and we're growing larger and more effective every day.

   Unlike a major Michigan gun control group, MCRGO does not receive grant funding  from any out-of-state foundations or  corporations.  We have no full time staff paid from out-of-state foundations.  All of our funding comes from our membership dues donations of $15.00/calendar year plus contributions from concerned citizens. MCRGO is also proud to be affiliated with the National Rifle Association.
