June 2nd, 1999 MCRGO will be speaking at the general membership night on the 2nd of June. The events for that night include: drinks starting at around 5 pm. Dinner at 6 pm with meeting after, you should be able to present your case at around 7pm. If you want to participate in drinks and dinner, it's a cash bar and dinner is $4 to $7 at the door.
The Iosco County Sportsman's Club is located in East Tawas, just off US 23 on the south side of the highway.
(Look for the driveway marked with the Iosco Co. Sportsman's Club sign, the driveway is past a travel trailer sales place. If you get to the McDonalds you've gone too far!) Depending on the dinner available, the cost is from $3 to $7 at the door.  Here's a chance to get some North East Michigan people involved!

Coffee, great people, good fellowship. The second meeting of the Grand Traverse Area Chapter-MCRGO had all three.  Meeting April 27th, many members and visitors discussed local issues and the progress of CCW legislation.
The new chapter is off to a great start with over 45 new MCRGO members in the Traverse City area. State Representative Jason Allen (R-Traverse City), was invited to attend and share his thoughts on CCW reform. He declined, citing his Lansing schedule. Several members have been corresponding with Rep. Allen to ascertain his position on CCW reform, but to date, he has been non-committal and is "riding the fence" on this issue. One goal for the Grand Traverse Chapter is to increase contact with Rep. Allen and to secure him as a guest in a future meeting.
Member David Bieganowski suggested we resume live video taping of the monthly county gun board meetings. These tapes are then broadcast on our local community cable access channel. The demeanor of the gun board changes considerably when what they do and say is recorded. Wonder why they don't like it? Speaking of gun boards - Grand Traverse County prosecutor Dennis LaBelle, in a debate concerning public safety during a meeting of the Michigan Republican State Committee held in Traverse City on Saturday, April 17, is on record as to his views on CCW reform. He warned that if Michigan liberalizes its concealed weapons policy, police will be more inclined to search people and vehicles. Quote: "What's more important to you - being free from unreasonable searches and seizures or being able to carry a gun?" This kind of wrong-headed thinking is precisely why gun boards must be restrained and brought into compliance with the Michigan Constitution.
Another local chapter meeting will be held in late June or early July.
