Election Summary  11/5/2002

The Michigan Coalition for Responsible Gun Owners (MCRGO) is made up of very dedicated gun rights activists. Over the years these spectacular volunteers have dedicated their time and money to promote one thing, gun rights. MCRGO is the best grassroots organization for promoting gun rights in the state of Michigan. However, recently the strength of MCRGO has been severely weakened. Not by the members and loyal activists who fight whenever they can, but by the leadership, the Board of Directors.

The current Board of Directors (BOD) of MCRGO have caused serious damage to the name, reputation, and effectiveness of MCRGO. They have done this by abandoning the principles and goals of that got MCRGO to where it was and they have replaced them with their own personal agendas and problems.

It has been five months since the Board of Directors made drastic changes to MCRGO.  They fired the Executive Director who spent countless hours making sure events happend and happend successfully.  Then they hired a hard core Republican consulting firm to guide bi-partisan MCRGO. They did all this without ever contacting or informing the membership that such changes would be taking place. David Felbeck, the appointed President of MCRGO, called this "a new direction" for MCRGO.  The Board of Directors claimed they would take over the duties of the Executive Director and all things would continue to run as normal. But what we have seen from MCRGO since then has been a series of failures. Failures that are costing MCRGO political clout. Failures that are costing MCRGO activists. Failures that are costing MCRGO members. Finally, failures that will cost pro-gun legislators elections and create a hostile environment with the legislators that are elected.

As we predicted Dick Posthumus, lost his bid to become Governor to anti-gun Jennifer Granholm.  This was partially due to the major changes and the corresponding serious of failures that the current Board of Directors are directly responsible for.  Todd Adkins, Pat Alzady, Dave Aviles, Rolland M. Brengle, Jr., Dave Felbeck, Glen Griffith, Jim Kliemann, and Dale Shantz have intentionally sabotaged a very effective organization by making drastic changes behind the members back and have been negligent in following through on the their duties.  They fired the Executive Director, who is also a licensed attorney and replaced him with a secretary and a part time advisor.  It's no wonder MCRGO has failed so miserably since July.  The Board of Directors  has failed the membership of MCRGO, the gun rights movements, and the pro-gun candidates.

If you are serious about gun rights in Michigan than take the time to read this site and see what the board members have done, why they did it, how it's costing us the battle for gun rights in Michigan, and what we can do about it.
